This was a fun little hike I took with my local hiking club. Got a few time lapse sequences I wanted to show off so here they are.

Put this together to showcase a couple timelapses and some panoramas. The video for the panoramas was probably stretched a little further than Sony Vegas could handle and is slightly choppy. So goes the life of an amateur video editor.

Adventures in Timelapse. While not particularly extraordinary, this timelapse has given me more frustration than (almost) any other. There are several exposure jumps in this sequence created by qDSLRDashboard that I was finally able to figure out how to smooth out with LRTimelapse . For some reason, the keyframes that lrtimelapse was sending to lightroom via the xmp sidecar files contained some weird kind of tone curve that I haven't noticed until today. Once I made the tone curve linear in these keyframes, the odd flickering in the sequence that were only happening where the keyframes were processed, went away. The tone curve only appeared in the keyframes and were not something I introduced. Very odd but I'm so happy I figured out what the hell was going on. I have probably rendered this sequence 30 times over the course of the last week trying to figure this out. Good practice with lrtimelapse but I think this might be either a bug or I have a setting wrong somewhere in lightroom that is causing this.

Still working on Holy Grail sequences (day to night) with lrtimelapse and Auto ETTR in Magic Lantern. The scene looked very promising when I showed up at the park. The clouds were very moody looking. Unfortunately the mountain was obscured for most of the sequence but it still made for an interesting TL.

I took a quick trip up to Chinook Pass to see what kind of timelapse I could get. Chinook just opened the day before so I was hoping for something cool to TL. I settled on pulling over at this viewpoint and catching the sunset and stayed until almost 2 hours after sunset just to see what would happen. I am becoming less freaked out at running my camera into the dark well after I can't see anything at all with the naked eye and just trusting that my camera will pick up the good stuff. I'm eager to get a good mostly clear night so I can pick up some stars in one of these sessions. Used Auto ETTR mode with intervelometer in Magic Lantern. From ISO 100 and 1/250th of a second to ISO 3200 and 20 seconds. Locked aperture at F8.

So these bald eagles were riding the thermals today on Mt Jupiter and they were swirling around going higher and higher. I saw several of them going up and several more swirling around over the summit. When I got to the summit they were mostly gone but this guy caught my eye. I have no idea where he thought he was going to land but it was pretty cool watching him ride the same thermals as the eagles I saw previously.
