How it all began

I must have been 13 or 14 (mid eighties) when my mom and my sister and me went hiking at Hurricane Ridge. Our family never hiked or had any experience hiking so this was something special. We hiked out towards Mt Angeles from the parking lot at Hurricane Ridge and if memory serves, we went as far as the Switchback trail. At one point during the day my mother slipped and fell down the side of a steep embankment. She turned out to be OK but we were a little worried at first as it was a pretty good fall she took. We eventually started cracking up over the choice words she used as she was tumbling down the hillside. I don't think I hiked again after that until I was 19 or 20, but whenever I look back on my hiking career, that always stands out as my first real hike.
