Thanks for sharing your amazing story Robert and for reaching out and signing my guest book. It seems that there are so many "hiking celebrities" nowadays online, that it is a rare pleasure to read stories from a true adventurer.

Hi Jay,
I saw your reference to my many trips to Ozette, including the one in 1998 when I got washed out to sea for a few days. Yes, it is all true. Just thought you would want to know.

<a href="#comment-1800" rel="nofollow">@Kelsie </a>
Go for it Kelsie, you'd love it. For what its worth, I ran into folks on my hike that arrived at Kalalau the day before I did and they said it rained on them the whole way in. They didn't act like it was too terribly difficult to negotiate. Still, that Kauai mud is pretty slick stuff.

Molakai, and Lanai are on my list of islands to visit soon, and the big island again to photograph the red glowing stuff coming out of the ground. LOL

Nice work Jay. My boyfriend and I are hoping to return to Hawaii (Molokai specifically) later this year. If not Molokai, possibly Kauai (our first time). I enjoyed seeing your pictures and reading your account of the hike. Especially interested in pictures of the "scary" parts. Not sure how I'd do on those sections, but the end reward looks worth some jittery nerves.

Hi Andrew. Since it is just a shed, I skipped the moisture barrier. Not real sure how useful it would be. If I was to insulate the shed, or like you said expect a large temperature difference inside vs outside, it may have been a good idea.

Yep, Hardie panel screwed right in to the studs.

The Hardie Panel I used was pre-primed. I've recently painted the shed. I'm not fond of priming stuff myself so the pre-primed treatment was really nice.

Thanks for the compliments, happy shed building!

Hi Jay, thanks for the great post. I'm thinking of using Hardipanel as well, may I ask you a few questions?
1. I noticed on the install manual that the Hardiepanel requires a moisture barrier. But I assume that it was for a home w. a large humidity/temperature difference inside vs outside. did you use a moisture barrier and what is your opinion of that?

2. did you just put the hardiepanel screwed right into the studs?

3. did you buy the primed hardiepanel or the painted type. i'm not a big fan of painting and i heard it comes prefinished.

Thanks!! That's a really nice shed.

I'm glad you liked the pictures Kadie.

Black Canyon is a separate hike from Umtanum Falls but its not too far away. I guess I wasn't too clear on that in the post. I added a little note just now to let the reader know that.

I used the book, Best Desert Hikes Washington to find the place.

These images are beautiful! This is the waterfall I someday wish to be married at! I love it! It is just the most beautiful ascape from the yakima's sage brush inwhich it offers a ton of.
I had never heard of it to be called black canyon. Utanum falls and creek is what we locals refer to it as. The bridge side is also very nice, the creek seems to be a little thicker as it gets close to the river. Very very nice photography again!
